Huge Rate Increase - But still worth it.

Rescued my Labrador Jazzy when she was two years old. Got PetPlan right away. Didn't need them for many years. Rates started at about $1/day. Those rates went up every year until two years ago I was paying about $1200/year. Then Jazzy developed pancreatitis and needed a great deal of care including several days in the hospital. The bill was over $5000. PetPlan paid virtually all of it. Turns out she is diabetic. She also developed bad arthritis and frequent UTIs. Only once did they get a claim wrong. After a quick phone call it was rectified. Then last year they got a new underwriter and the claims skyrocketed. I now have a $300/illness deductible (was $200), 10% co-pay (was 0 except specialty care) and a premium of about $3100/year. My now 11-year old Lab has frequent illnesses but PetPlan has kept paying and manages to figure out (with the vet's help) which charges belong to which illness. The insurance is still paying for itself, but barely. Beware that some insurance policies will consider an illness a pre-existing condition when the policy rolls over the next year. PetPlan doesn't do that, so far. I have no choice but to keep them for Jazzy but will shop around with my next dog.
