My active and healthy 8 year old dachshund gave me the scare of my life recently when she began wobbling on her hind legs and dragging her back paws after what seemed like a fairly minor fall two days before. Terrified, I went to my vet and they confirmed my fears: Doodle needed surgery, as she had herniated a disk. I recently moved to the Bay Area and was shocked at the expense of the surgery, but needed to do what was best for my pup. Yesterday, about a month after her surgery and two weeks after submitting my claim, I received a check in the mail for $5,090 out of the total cost of around $5,600! (This is with a $600 deductible, by the way.) When I signed up for Petplan, I was surprised at how expensive pet insurance for an older dachshund was; now, I am even more surprised to see that it was actually worth it. I will be sticking with Petplan for the rest of Doodle's life and for any other pooch that might come into my life after her.
