I have two dogs insured with Petplan and did a lot of research when choosing an insurer. Thankfully, both dogs have been insured for three years without incident until recently. My 9 year old Border Collie mutt had a tooth removed and, as a freak result of the anesthesia, he ended us with severe ulcerative esophagitis that caused him a LOT of pain and to suck gas into his stomach. He was in the doggy ICU for almost a week and was transferred from our local emergency vet to a specialty animal hospital. Every vet I spoke with had nothing but good things to say about Petplan, but I was still prepared to fight to get my sizable claim processed and reimbursed. I submitted everything and monitored the status online, and within two weeks I had the check in the mail. There was no hassle at all. Even though the premiums seem high sometimes, the policy has already paid itself off several times over. Now I'm just hoping they don't drop us at the end of the policy period!
