I purchased pet insurance for my long haired dachshund Baxter last year. I was going to be out of the country for a few weeks and thought it a good idea to have pet insurance if something happened to Baxter in my absence. Nothing did happen to Baxter but I decided to continue my pet insurance upon my return even though I never expected anything to happen to my 4 year old very healthy dog. Then this spring Baxter ended up with meningitis that caused him to stagger, lose his balance, etc. We rushed him to an emergency vet hospital, followed the same day by a visit to a vet neurological hospital. Turns out that Baxter has caught Valley Fever that caused the meningitis. By the time this bad day ended we had spent $3349 for Baxter's care. Shortly thereafter I started the claims process. I was a little skeptical at first as to how well this would go since I've dealt with insurance companies in the past who do everything they can to avoid paying. Not PetPlan. They made submitting the claim easy as all the forms needed are on the Petplan website (even partially filled out). Once I submitted the claim by FAX I quickly received an acknowledgment that the claim was received. During the processing of the claim you can check the status of the claim on the Petplan website. In less than a month PetPlan paid the claim in full (less my deductibles). No problems whatsoever. PetPlan did exactly as promised.
