Peace of mind to do whatever is needed

Recently, I came home from work and noticed my 5-year old pit-bull, Zola, was having trouble opening her eyes. They looked perfectly fine in the morning, but by the time 7pm rolled around, they were puffy, inflamed and goopy. To add to this, Zola didn't seem like her typical self. I called my sister-in-law - a practicing veterinary oncologist, and our go-to for all things vet-advice. She advised us that it should be looked at sooner rather than later, as an eye infection could quickly become a bigger problem if Zola scratched at her eyes and damaged her cornea. She also said that since it was after hours, going to the emergency vet would be expensive, and that if we opted to wait until morning we should try to keep a close eye on her overnight. That's when we reminded her that we had Petplan. So we jumped in the car and headed for the emergency vet where Zola got lots of meds (and love-filled rub downs) and a cone of shame while we got bill for more than $400. One of the eye drops alone cost $90! . A week later, Zola was on the mend. And after an encouraging follow-up visit to her regular vet, we were feeling better, too. When all was said and done, we had close to $600 in vet bills for a severe double eye infection. Thanks to Petplan, we got the bulk of that back - only days after we submitted a claim. Given that this was the fourth (albeit the most dramatic) time we visited the vet this year, we can confidently say we are grateful to be covered.
