We first heard about PetPlan through the Humane Society of the United States, and we signed up with PetPlan exactly one year ago. Although we receive a small discount for using a promotional code from the HSUS, it is quite notable that for a little over $1000 per year, we were able to insure our three very old pups, medium sized mixes aged 13, 14 and 16. We chose the Silver Plan, which has a $200 deductible per condition per period and a mostly 10% coinsurance (20% for specialists). This is the first time we've ever had pet health insurance, and it has already paid for itself many times over when one of our girls was diagnosed with late stage hemangiosarcoma. PetPlan reimbursed us for the majority of $4200 for emergency surgery, over $1400 for 4 chemotherapy treatments, as well as a couple of hundred for imaging and blood tests.
There was a small glitch before the claim was initially approved. PetPlan had not received the 2-year medical history from our vet even though the office had faxed it to them three times (once in front of my husband). We never figured out exactly what went wrong. Nevertheless, a quick-thinking happiness manager from PetPlan waived an internal control requirement and accepted the medical history documentation sent directly by us, until PetPlan could verify it with our vet.
