Pet Plan’s Senior Pet Renewal requirements saved my dog’s life.
Olly my Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s policy was up for renewal Feb. 11, 2011 so he was required to have a senior wellness exam with full blood and urine work; he just turned 9 yrs old and acts like a puppy so I wasn’t worried. I scheduled his check-up January 21st and brought the insurance policy to the appointment so our Vet could make sure they tested everything required. Two days after the check-up our Vet called suggesting we get an ultrasound as soon as possible. A few days after the ultrasound the Vet called saying they had found a tumor around the prostate and he had scheduled an appointment for Olly at the Colorado State University (CSU) Veterinary Teaching College’s Animal Cancer Center.
Three days after receiving the ultrasound results we were off on a terrifying adventure………terrifying for me, treat filled for Olly.
The first day at CSU they ran a number of tests with all results pointing towards Prostate Cancer, one of the worst cancers for a dog. I fought back the tears and tried to listen to everything that was said but it was all a blur…it was horrible. Olly couldn’t understand why I was so upset and there was no way to explain what was going on or ask what he wanted to do; at least with a person they can understand the diagnosis and decided on their care.
At the end of the 1st day the Doctor asked me to bring Olly back the next morning for more tests and gave me an estimate for the
