We awoke to the sound every pet owner dreads -- our little pup throwing up on the carpet. At least he made it off the bed! But it continued for several hours, and since our regular vet had closed for the weekend, we found ourselves rushing Bacon to the 24-hour emergency clinic. The vets there immediately began rehydrating him through an IV, and determined he'd be staying with them for awhile. During the next few days he had a full blood panel, X-rays and ultrasound. Then he was transferred to our regular vet where he stayed for a few days. The internists and our regular vet were fabulous, but we never did find out what Bacon contracted (that sometimes happens, they said), and emergency care is not inexpensive. Luckily, we had purchased insurance for Bacon when he was a baby, thinking at the time that it would be years before we'd need to worry about his health. But with over $1200 in vet bills rolling in, we ended up filing a claim sooner than we expected! It's been only a few days since we filed, and we just received a check covering our expenses. What a relief! And best of all, little Bacon is all well and back to racing around the house with his ball!
