I've had a policy with PetPlan since 2007 when I first adopted my cat, Chester. I spent more than $500 the first two weeks I had him, so I decided to buy pet insurance, and chose PetPlan. I've never regretted it! As is common with male, neutered cats, he would have a urinary blockage at least once a year for the past five and each time, PetPlan helped me pay for it (first year I paid $900 for treatment and got back about $700). This year, it happened twice within a few months, and the last time the vet recommended surgery to remove the crystals/stones. The surgery cost almost $1200. Unfortunately, after I brought him home, his recovery wasn't going well, and he ended up in an emergency care center for 2 days (another $1800). Once I received that $1800 quote I had a big decision to make: but it was easy because I knew I had PetPlan insurance. I can't imagine if I didn't! That $1800 could have been a real stretch on my budget -- and perhaps I wouldn't have been able to save my cat if I was in a situation where it came down to paying my mortgage vs. spending so much on a cat's medical procedure. A friend had a cat going through the same thing at the same time, and she had to pay a total of $3300 out of pocket (she doesn't have insurance). I highly recommend PetPlan for its easy to file claims, and they're so helpful when you have to call them.
