My 2 1/2 year old Labrador Retriever just underwent his second knee surgery to repair a cruciate tear on his right knee. His first surgery was on his left knee in 4/10. We were insured with Petplan for that surgery as well so I knew we were in good hands because of the excellent service we received from Petplan then. My first concern was whether a second surgery would be covered so I called Petplan and the rep I spoke with said we would be covered with no problem. Thank goodness we were covered because, unfortunately, there were complications with this surgery. My Lab ended up with an infection in his knee so we have been back to the vet and to an emergency vet more than we should have. Each time I faxed my claim along with the necessary documentation to Petplan and each time a check was in the mail within 1 -2 weeks. Since each visit has been a continuation of a previous illness, my chosen $50 deductible and 30% specialist coinsurance for the orthopedic surgeon was only deducted once. To date, our expenses for this last surgery have exceeded $3700 and Petplan has reimbursed me with no questions asked. It has been a stressful 3 weeks since my boy’s initial surgery. However, thanks to Petplan, the financial stress was relieved and we have been able to completely focus on our dog’s recovery.
