In 2007, I had the unfortunate experience of losing my seven year old maltese, Kobe, to lymphoma. That incident was emotionally and financially draining. Since that time, I have done some very extensive research on pet insurance companies. What I discovered is that there are so many differences in what each pet insurance company does or does not cover.
PetPlan has everything I want in a pet insurance company, and signing my three dogs up with them has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Their customer service is second to none. I called several times before and after I signed up as questions popped into my head. The staff are knowledgeable, courteous, professional, and empathetic. I started praising PetPlan to my friends and family, but a lot of them were skeptical because of negative experiences they had with other pet insurance companies. I cannot tell you how many of them said, "They sound too good to be true. Get back with me after you file a claim."
Well I recently filed my first claim, and they exceeded my expectations!!! They really are everything they say they are and more. My puppy started suffering from colitis in January. I took her to a few veterinarians to include both allopathic and holistic veterinarians. As many of you know, colitis can be a symptom of many different things. Amy from PetPlan was with me throughout the whole process. As I went through the diagnostic process with my puppy, I would call PetPlan with questions. Amy not only provided me with information on their policies, she was truly concerned about my puppy. As a loving pet owner herself, she could relate to the emotional stress this caused. I cannot even put into words how nice it was to not have to worry about the financial aspect of diagnosing and treating my puppy. The claim was very easy to file online, and I was able to check the status. I almost fell on the floor when I received my check. After my deductible, my claim was paid out just shy of 100%. The only thing that was not covered at 100% was a test that was run by a specialist. I shared the information on my claim with both my allopathic and holistic veterinarians, and they were beyond impressed. Both of them immediately wanted more information on PetPlan.
If you are on the fence about signing up for pet insurance and or about which one to choose, please allow my countless hours of research and first hand experience to lead you to PetPlan. Here are a few of the things that set PetPlan apart from the rest.
1. They offer different plans to fit in your budget. I was able to get all three of my dogs covered at a very reasonable rate with the election of 100% coverage for regular veterinarian visits and a $200.00 deductible. The 100% option is such a bonus to me.
2. They cover hereditary and congenital conditions as long as they are not pre-exisiting. This was very important to me because maltese are sometimes susceptible to congenital issues like liver shunts or luxating patellas. Almost all other pet insurance companies exclude hereditary or congenital issues under all circumstances.
3. They do not have a per incident limit. I carry the Gold Plan for my dogs, and this covers each one of them at 20K per year. If I need to use that full amount on one incident, I can do so. This will be a great benefit as we continue to treat my puppy for her illness.
I really could go on and on about PetPlan. They are like a dream come true for pet owners. I would like to leave you with one more thought. When choosing a pet insurance company, please do not allow yourself to be swayed by coverage for routine things in the policy. I look at routine visits like yearly check-ups, spays, etc as things you can budget for and plan. Accidents and illnesses are the things that most of us are not prepared for financially. Diagnosing an illness alone can be very expensive.
Choosing PetPlan for my dogs has given me the peace of mind that I will never have to sacrifice the best care for my dogs.
