My husband was not convinced that I was doing the right thing when I got health insurance for our two labradoodles, he thought it was an extravagance that we couldn't afford- but I bought the policies anyway!
Beck has been covered by PetPlan for around a year and we never had a claim until a few months ago. He was out running and playing in the woods with some other dogs and was punctured by a branch. It was a deep wound and the vet decided to anesthetize him and make sure that it hadn't punctured any organs. The bill was over $500! That was around $210 more than the premiums I paid for a year. PetPlan lets you pick your deductible and co-pay, we have a $50 deductible and 10% co-pay. My out of pocket expense for that incident was a little over $100, I was so relieved that I hadn't listened to my husbands complaints about getting health insurance for the dogs.
About a month later, I noticed that our 5 month old puppy Murphy had bad breath, his permanent canines had grown in and the primary ones were still there, his gums were sore and inflamed and they primary teeth showed no sign of coming out. I took him to the vet, they anesthetized him and removed the baby teeth. The vet submitted all the paperwork to PetPlan and I got a check in less than 3 weeks!
PetPlan rocks, I spent weeks looking at other companies but after reading all the 'small print' that some of them had Pet plan was the only company that didn't look like it was trying to find ways to NOT pay claims..
