We adopted Penny from a mill dog rescue organization--she was 6 months old at the time, and reasonable healthy (as much as a mill dog can be). A month ago she got very, very sick; vomitting and diarrhea. Because she is so little, I knew she could become critically ill quickly. We took her to the animal emergency hospital, and it's good we did. She was hypothermic and in shock from dehydration. They ran almost every test they could to determine the cause. They did ultrasounds, you name it. She stayed in critical care for two nights, all the while receiving IVs and constant care from the vet techs. They never did find a definitive cause for her illness, other than severe gastroenteritis. She healed and is back to normal now. I submitted the expensive bill to PetPlan (online), had the vets fax the medical history, and within two weeks, received a check for almost the whole amount of our bill. It was so simple and I never had to argue for payment. Buying this insurance, which I thought I would never use, has turned out to be the best thing I have done. I know now that if Penny ever gets sick or injured, I can count on PetPlan to ease the financial burden. Way to go!
