Misleading Policy!

Out of 10

Beware of how these pet policies are advertised. Petplan does not make it clear that all of its policies are deductibles PER incident. If your dog gets sick and needs an exam, blood work, stool sample you're looking at just around 200 dollars (which is the deductible). Our 3 year-old lab started limping, we took her back to the vet, opted for x-rays assuming we were through our deductible and petplan said it was a new incident, therefore a new deductible. I am a doctor-what kind of insurance has new deductibles, hence the name. Maybe they all run this scam, but I'll be looking into a new insurance company. The website does say this, but its marked by a question mark. When you print out your policy it does not say this. Also, it does not cover 100% when you take your dog to an emergency clinic or a specialist-then it only covers 70%. Aren't most injuries and illnesses emergencies? We have a 24 hour emergency clinic near our home and it costs us 30% to take the dog there. So buyer beware. These conditions are also not printed on our policy. When we did make a claim, Petplan expedited the claim within 1 month and the agents are courteous. I do not know how this would be handled if your dog would need continuing medication. Ask a lot of questions and keep in mind you may be better off getting basic insurance to cover something catastrophic such as cancer or long-term illness.

Sounds like you did not read your policy because it very clearly states the deductible is *per incident*. PetPlan never tries to hide this and I've never felt they were misleading. Glad to know your pup is feeling better though.

It was plain as day right from the get go, that the deductible was per incident. Nothing hidden, no deception. PetPlan spelled it out.

Even on the claim form it says PER INCIDENT. Gotta read it. They absolutely disclose the deductible is per incident. It's even more awesome that if you're continuing a claim the deductible isn't applied twice. Just once.

I agree. They were very upfront about this when I talked to customer service. And besides, after three pet insurance companies, they all do it. But no one pays as well as PetPlan.
