Great service, great coverage, no surprises.

I have had coverage with PetPlan for about one year and a half. I am very happy with them. I have submitted several claims and never had a “surprise” with them. Their customer service is very polite and responsive (over phone and email), and the claims are processed as they should be (I never had claims denied or paid less than I expected).
Last year I adopted two cats from a rescue organization in the Washington DC area. While one of the cats (the oldest) is very healthy and so far has only needed routine care, the younger cat has had a few problems. First, last year the vet noticed severe gingivitis and suggested a cleaning and other tests (bloodwork, tissue biopsy, ultrasound) to rule out some “scary” possibilities (such as FIP). Everything came out ok but my kitty would require daily care (tooth brushing, special diet) and regular cleanings. The tests, the tooth cleaning (with general anesthesia) and the appointments added up to more than $1000. I submitted the claims and a few weeks later I had my check for exactly the amount I expected to receive.

A few months later, we took this cat for a veterinary dentist (specialist) for a cleaning and evaluation. I do not know what happened in the clinic, but when we got home and opened the carrier, my cat could not walk properly (had severe lameness) and seemed to be in pain. Having no idea what the problem was (she was in “perfect shape” when we dropped her at the clinic in the morning) or if the problem was relat

Having no idea what the problem was (she was in “perfect shape” when we dropped her at the clinic in the morning) or if the problem was related to the general anesthesia, I called the vet dentist and he suggested we took her to the ER, where she was diagnosed with a CCL tear (knee ligament). The next day, my cat had still not used her litter box (although several times she would walk to it, cry and leave). I called the vet and they suggested I took her to the ER again to make sure she did not have a problem with her bladder and/or kidneys (because of the general anesthesia). Days later she also had appointments with the surgeon to evaluate the knee and the need for surgery. At the end, the conservative treatment worked (she was locked up in a room for eight weeks), and she did not need surgery. However, the final bill (tooth cleaning with general anesthesia, visits to the ER, x-rays, and appointments) totaled over $1000. Again, after deductible, they paid everything as I expected.

As stated before: all claims were paid as they should have been. I have the Gold Plan (with the options $200 deductible per condition, and 100% coverage after that). After the deductible, they paid 100% of the regular vet expenses and 70% of the expenses with the specialists, exactly what I expected (I heard they will be increasing the percent paid to specialists to 80%).

Overall, I am very pleased with PetPlan. I am so fortunate to have two wonderful rescue animals, and am happy that I can count on PetPlan to help me keep them happy and healthy.

I would highly recommend PetPlan to anyone looking for pet insurance coverage. In fact, I have recommended them to several people.

** Update on my kitty (as of Sept. 2010): she is healthy and happy!!! :) >^.^<

Thanks PetPlan!
