Out of 10

If your pet isn’t 100% healthy, then don’t waste your money like I did. I thought I was getting a solid peace of mind for my pet, it didn’t happen. Years of paying for a service that denied 2 claims based on the same pre-existing condition. The second denial was the hardest as an appeal was made and they dug until they could re-deny it again. I say, save the monthly fee in the bank, earn interest and you’ll have the money for your Vet bills. This will be my future plan.

Sorry to hear your claims were denied but pre-existing conditions aren't covered so it shouldn't be a surprise it would be denied twice if it was the same pre-existing condition. As for saving enough money...if you don't run Into any serious problems it could work. It's a bit of a gamble. Depends what you are comfortable with and if your dog remains mostly healthy. I think at this time we have had over $10,000 in claims for our dog mostly because of acute orthopaedic issues. All have been covered. He didn't have any or-existing conditions. We have paid our 10% and the examination fees, consultation fees and vaccination costs. But there is no way we would have saved $10,000 by now (7 years) to pay out of pocket. For us it has helped tremendously. And we did not have to consider euthanizing him because we couldn't pay. Which is something I would not have to face. Anyhow, that's my experience and perspective.
Best wishes to you and your dog.

I am having the same problem with trying to get a claim paid. I have sent a letter of cancellation for my pets, and will bank the money with interest. I have appealed my last claim.

After paying for six years, we come to find out our insurance was cancelled even though we notified them of an address and phone number change. We paid over $2,500.00 into insurance for nothing. When contacted, it was very convenient for them to say it is the law that they can not reinstate a policy after it has been cancelled. I would never recommend TruCompanion or any pet insurance for that matter. As the previous writer said, it is better to start you own savings plan for future medical bills than rely on an insurance company which will only disappoint you when you need it.

I have to agree with you 100%, I just canceled my policy for SAME reason, wasn't even pre exisiting condition, was tested for possibility. HORRIBLE experience!!! Good luck with your pet!!!

We live in a world of rules. Each of us has the ability and the request/option of reading the policy procedures and then make a decision regarding coverage. Trust me, Trupanion is the ultimate in care, service and professional conduct. If I told you of the hassle, changes, disappointment and absolute frustration from the BIG company that covers my senior dogs, you might be grateful for what Trupanion can do for you and your pet. Good luck with the other guys. Nothing but a goal to not pay out as stated in the original contract.

Hi Lillie,
I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience with Trupanion. As pet lovers and owners ourselves, we truly do want to pay claims so that you don't have to worry about finances when making a decision for your pet. That being said, pre-existing conditions are a direct policy exclusion for all pet insurance companies. When working with your vet, we are thoroughly researching the condition to find a way to medically disconnect the present condition from one noted in the past. But, when the two are unable to be medically disconnected, the condition is deemed pre-existing and ineligible for coverage. While it sounds like you have chosen to cancel your policy with us, please know that you can always give us a call at 888.733.2685 to discuss your concerns. We wish you and your pet all the best in the future.

Kind regards,
Laura P.
