No Coverage for "Pre-existing Condition

I was very pleased with PetFirst with the policy I had for my late Greyhound. When he had a sudden and tragic death with multiple bills, they covered much of the expense.
I increased the level of my coverage for our new rescued Greyhound whom we adopted in September 2016. Most recently, she had to have major dental surgery for severe periodontal disease. They had to extract 16 teeth and she stayed overnight due to possible bleeding. I would consider this very serious. After submitting the claim and including all the paperwork, the claim was denied. The reason I received through a phone call to the company was that this was a pre-existing condition. How so? I had taken her to the vet on October 13th. Because I didn't begin my new policy for this second dog until October 14th, her dental disease was a pre-existing condition!!!! This was a major expense of over $1200 dollars. I was confident I would get a little help with this. My benefit? $0.00. I know there are rules and regulations for all insurance companies, but this seems unfair. Up until now, I have been very happy with this company. But the "rules" of insurance companies are clearly something you should be aware of. Very disappointed. I cannot say I wouldn't recommend this company, because this is one situation. Just know the rules and read your policy.
