Here we go again...Premium increases

There are a lot of things I like about Pets Best. They really have a great turn around time and great customer service. However, now my premiums are going up signficantly (last year was 50% and this year an average of 44%). I am told it has to do with location, breed, and vet price increases. I am mightly disappointed in them. I know they have had new underwriters, but it's not fair to push such huge premium increases on your customers.
In regards to my one and only claim for this particular pet, the claim was processed in two days. For that, I'm very impressed. However, they won't cover giardia tests because it's has parasites that be prevented. Not true anymore. There used a vaccine but it proven to be inneffective so the American Veterinary Assocation removed it from their list of recommended vaccines. It doesn't work. I have a pet covered over another insurance and they told me they do cover giardia because there is no vaccine that can prevent it from happening.

My overall feelings are mixed on this company. I cannot in good conscience place my new pets under them. But when it comes to calling them and having claims processing, they are extremely fast. They typically don't question anything either.

Hi Sarah,
When our plans were first started, the Giardia vaccine was highly recommended for dogs. This has recently changed and we are taking that into consideration when determining future revisions for our policies. In the meantime, parasites are a listed exclusion on the policy and we’re not able consider providing coverage for parasites.

In regards to your rate increase, you are correct. Premiums are calculated based on a pet’s age, species, breed, and geographic location. Together, these factors predict the likelihood of the pet needing veterinary care as well as the likely cost of that veterinary care. Prices are not based on your personal claims filing history, and we do not reduce or cancel coverage based on your pet’s age. Also, we have removed the exclusions and limitations for congenital and hereditary conditions, which is an additional factor for the rate increase.

In addition we have many options we can consider to lower your premium such as a higher deductible or lower reimbursement rate. Let us know if you would like to go over those options. Hi, I was fully aware that parasites were not covered. I would not have submitted a claim for something I knew was not covered. I was hoping since Giardia is not a parasite that can be prevented by a vaccine, you would have changed the coverage. I am glad to hear you are trying to catch with the other insurance carriers who do cover giardia.
The change in underwriters a couple of years ago caused our premiums to more than double in price. An example: $584 to $1404. Imagine having your pet insured with Pets Best for a few years and you go through your typical 5-10% annual increases and then being sent a renewal for something like that. Over 150% increase. Enough said. Folks need to know that this happened to one of your customers and by the looks of some of the other reviews, it has happened to others.

I'll end with saying that your customer service is exceptional. Please have no doubts about that. My only issue has been with the premiums. I can even handle giardia not being covered and again, I'm happy you are re-considering coverage on it. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my review.
