We have had VPI for the last 13 years since we brought Maxie home as a puppy. Initially we had the yearly routine coverage, but for the last 10 or so we have just kept up the "Emergency" type coverage with the old "Standard" plan. The reason is she's been crazy healthy for many years and only recently has had liver issues, and some other things with fatty masses hindering her movement. Last year was a light year, but already this year she did go in for surgery to remove a Lipoma preventing movement of her hind leg. Prior to that was some small skin issues, and her ongoing liver blood work. All along VPI has at least given us a way to cover some of her costs through out the year. She's getting along in her age, so every little bit helps. We decided long ago not to do any more than the minimum needed to keep her healthy. W try to stay away from drugs unless needed, and this was only her 2nd surgery ever. We are lucky she's such a good dog and for all the 15 years of premiums paid into VPI....it's nice to have a little come back when it's needed.
