Used to be great...not anymore

I have been with Pets Best for almost 6 years. I went with them because of the great reviews at the time. We were just getting a new puppy, and figured pet insurance is something we should have. In the meantime, we have also added our 14 year old cat and a new puppy we got 8 months ago. In the past, we have had no problems with reimbursements, and the insurance for each pet per year was about $200-300, which was acceptable. This year, they changed undewriters, and our insurance went up to $800-$1000 each year per pet. In addition, the reimbursements are taking longer and are more complicated. I will be shopping around for another insurance company.

Hi Lehua,We are sorry to hear that you haven't been happy with your Pets Best experience. Our claims reimbursement times are the fastest in the industry.

We did recently change underwriters so some of our customers’ premiums have increased while others have decreased. Older pets will cost more to insure, as they’re more likely to have health issues as they age. We’re one of the only pet insurance companies with no upper age limits and we don’t reduce or cancel coverage based on your pet’s age. We strive to work with our customers to find a plan that fits within their budget. Please let us know if we can help you further.

Again, I feel I need to comment here. When I received my policy renewal and found that my costs were going up $500 per pet for my 10 and 11 years, I almost fainted. I immediately began checking into other pet insurance companies and their costs were no where as high. Any one under the old insurance who has a senior pet is going to be shocked when their pet reaches a certain age. Just really disappointed with a company that I really appreciated with customer service.

Two of my senior pets also doubled in premiums. I checked into other insurance companies (Trupanion, Healthy Paws, Pet Plan) and all were a lot more cheaper than the renewal notice I received. Disgusting that a new underwriter can come in and do this. Buyers do need to be aware that this is the second or third underwriter which means this could happen again.
