We previously had Pet First insurance and our dog had knee surgery on his right leg. They had policy changes effective 1/1/11, 2 weeks before our dog's surgery... so NOTHING was covered after paying for 5 years and no claims. We switched to VPI and they assured us they would cover the left leg if it was needed, after 1 year of coverage and no problems. True to their word, our dog had surgery 14 months after starting coverage and almost all of it was covered. They covered all of the medications and xrays prior to diagnosis and after care. Pet First wouldn't even cover the visits prior to diagnosis because it was all related to a non covered procedure, even though we didn't know this during the initial visits. I have recommended to all of our friends and family to switch to VPI and run from Pet First. VPI has made timely payments and makes it easy to check claims on line. No complaints at all....great care over the past 2 years.
