My rescue chow girl Trish developed a small bump on her nose last Sep. My vet excised it and we sent it for a biopsy. To our shock, it was a amelanotic melanoma. Trish then had more of that area of her nose removed. She went on to immunotherapy (Oncept vaccine) given every 6 months and rechecks every 3 months. The surgeries added up to well over $5000, each vaccination is over $600, and the recheck visits are about $400 each. VPI coverage and cancer rider have greatly reduced the $ burden and my pup (still cancer free) is well worth it.
