After having been through several expensive medical issues with a now deceased cat, I decided to enroll my remaining kitties with Trupanion last fall. They seemed very nice, assured me that they would do everything possible to cover expenses for me, and reassured me that they were much better than the competition when it came to covering things. Then, I filed my first claim. In January, I had to file a claim for a brand new incident involving my older cat. This was not related to a pre-existing condition, yet Trupanion seemed to think so. I filed an appeal, got two letters from two different vets stating that this issue was not pre-existing, and they still denied most of the charges. They would pay a little more, try and apply the deductible again, and then send me a happy little note telling me that they are pleased to help with expenses. I have just received the final appeal, and now they've come up with a different excuse not to pay. Oh, they did offer to pay a little more, but they are again trying to deduct a deductible, which has already been paid. I have spent countless HOURS on the phone dealing with this, and I'm tired of it. Yes, they are nice and they do pay some expenses (prescriptions) very quickly. But dealing with this one issue has been a nightmare.
