Two Paws Up for Petplan!

A few months ago I purchased an insurance plan for my rescued Chesapeake Bay Retriever Elwood Blues. I was skeptical about pet insurance because frankly my experiences with my own human health insurance have been less than stellar, but based on the advice of the treasurer of the organization that rescued Elwood (Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue) I went ahead and purchased the plan. Our premium with Petplan insurance is roughly $30.00 a month with a $200.00 deductible and 100% reimbursement on covered expenses. I'm so glad we went ahead with the coverage. On a Friday evening, five minutes after my vet closed I realized Elwood was in serious gastrointestinal distress. I rushed Elwood to the emergency vet where they treated him and released him- to the tune of about $750.00. The following day he was not bouncing back and was still not eating or drinking. So we headed back to the E-vet where he was admitted to the hospital for the night. We picked him up Sunday morning, paid another $750.00 bill and brought home a very tired, but obviously feeling better Elwood. Monday we saw our regular vet for a recheck. A test for Addison's disease was ordered and Elwood spent the day at the vet on Tuesday. The bill for Monday and Tuesday was approximately $300.00. The result was thankfully, negative.
