My dog is now 9 yrs. old and she has been covered by VPI since I got her as a puppy. She was the first dog I obtained insurance for and it has really helped defray costs. The wellness part I like very much. The company questioned a gastroenteritis when she was about a year old but after questioning my vet I was reimbursed. At age 7 when a visitor didn't close the gate properly it blew open and she visited next door, came back, wind closed gate and that evening she became ill. Didn't know she escaped until after the surgery to remove mass in stomach which turned out to be massive amount of clay from neighbors pottery pit. VPI paid a good portion of bill. It is easy to submit a claim and they e-mail you once they receive it saying they are working on it. It would be helpful if they also reimbursed you for medications. Some diseases only require medication that can add up to quite a bit. I decided to get pet insurance after I paid over $50,000 treating one of my dogs in 2 yrs.
