Very Low Reimbursements

About a 1-1/2 years ago, my 11 year old Ocicat developed Colitis/IBD, requiring several tests including an ultrasound. As most vet offices do not have ultrasound technicians readily available, one had to drive in at additional cost. VPI doesn't pay travel costs at all so you'd better be sure to use a full-service hospital. My claim to VPI was $852 but VPI only paid $175 (20%). They only reimburse an ultrasound at $76.50 (real cost = $315). The claim took a little over two weeks to process. Were it not for his age, I'd move to another insurance policy that doesn't use U&C or fee schedules. I have adopted two new cats and will go with another company for their coverage. Recently, my cat had complications from a URI requiring hospitalization, surgery, medications, and an eye specialist. So far my costs are about $5,000, but I have to wait until his treatment is completely finished before I can submit the claim. I'll submit another review once I get the reimbursement back on that claim.
