In late March 2009, I adopted an elderly cat from a shelter whose age was estimated to be 12 years old. I knew that because of her age that ilnesses were a probable part of her future. I also know how expensive veterinary care can be. So, I went on the search for a pet insurance carrier that would not only insure an elderly pet, but also provide a lot of coverage. Trupanion met my needs for her. The policy not only insures a pet that is as old as she, but provides an unlimited aggregate claim payout amount as well. The icing on the cake with Trupanion is that the copay is only 10%, which is lower than most other policies that provide comparable coverage.
Six months after I adopted my elderly kitty, her kidneys began to fail. Sara has now been in kidney failure for over two years. Trupanion has been covering 90% of all of the costs for her lab tests and meds needed to monitor and treat her kidney failure, and even has been providing a small reimbursement for her prescription food. Processing of the claims for Sara's care has been efficient, and reimbursement is timely.
