We adopted a Schnauzer (mix) from our local humane society who, at the time, was about 3 years old. Because we weren't sure exactly what we were getting (we were told to take him to a local vet for a free initial exam) but still, who knew if he would have a heart condition or something that would be expensive to maintain. So, why not start him out with some insurance and that's exactly what we did. Altho we've had our dog for three years now, he's a healthy son of a gun but it's good to know that ASPCA is there. We've had to put in an insurance claim just once (he was bitten) and a check was in the mail within a few weeks. I recommend pet insurance to everyone, especially if they're adopting.
