Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). I always resented the monthly charge to…

I always resented the monthly charge to my credit card that I never seemed to get any benefit from. I had a huge deductible in order to make the monthly payments more manageable, and then there are things that aren't covered, such as the intake exam, so by the time that's all deducted you get a cheque for something like $15. And then you never know what to believe online, or whether "insurance" will actually come through when the chips are down. So it felt like I wasn't getting anything out of it. THEN my beloved old Irish Setter, Rowdy Roddy the Red, ate a heavy terry towel shop rag (why???), and it got stuck in his stomach and small intestine. The cost estimate to get it out staggered me. But it turns out Trupanion actually pre-approves on the spot (the vet tech raved about Trupanion), so I KNEW I could make decisions without having to factor in the cost! In the end my sweetheart died, because the exam turned up advanced cancer that would have made choosing to go ahead with the rag-removal surgery just cruel and selfish. BUT I DIDN'T HAVE TO PUT HIM DOWN BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD TREATMENT. That would have haunted me for the rest of my life. Thank you thank you thank you.

My fees have nearly doubled in 3 years

I’m fine with the service received. We had one basic claim for gastro issue for our golden retriever and Trupanion covered the expenses after our deductible as I would expect. No hassle. Easy. BUT after two fee increases in our digs 3 years of life we are now paying $85.07/month for our healthy dog 😱 with no guarantee it’s not going to continue like this. I’m done.

Increased your rates Jan 1 due to…

Increased your rates Jan 1 due to increase vet costs in our area. Seems like a money grab to me. Only time I tried to use your services, it was part of the deductible. Feel that if I started my own account and put the same money aside, it would be more beneficial and earning money. I am considering cancelling.

Too much premium increases

I have been a Trupanion customer for 6 years now. The efficiency in which you are reimbursed and what is covered is great, however year-after-year the monthly premium has gone up and is now almost double what it was 6 years ago. As a long-time customer with only one claim in six years (5 years ago), I would have hoped our premiums would have remained similar year-over-year with understandable increases but $44 - $74/month is a drastic increase because of "an increase in claims in our breed and area".

Now over a million subscribers ?? over 50 million a month in revenues - we haven't experienced any benefit - net profits???

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
