So far it has been GREAT!

I love the coverage that they provide, in particular that they do not go by a schedule (which to me is a big red flag). I have a puppy so I went with the routine coverage option, but if you feel that is not necessary they also offer with out. So far, the insurance has been worth it and I enjoy the peace of mind that my puppies are covered in case of an emergency.Although to clarify a few points, yes it does not cover hereditary/congenital conditions or pre-existing conditions. However, that is the case with many of the pet insurances that I know of (except one which does cover them but at a higher expense). I cant speak on how they handle continuous coverage on chronic conditions b/c I haven't had to at this time. Secondly, the routine care does have a 10% copayment, but no deductable. My only problem with them is that they missed a claim when I submitted 3. I noticed when I received my reimbursement that something was missing and upon calling to ask customer service were diligent in correcting the error. So far, the claim process has been quick and easy.

Beware of this company!!!

My dog was diagnosed with grade 1 heart murmured, and they denied my claim saying that the condition was pre-existing, I had called and talked to them, they asked me to fax in the doctor's note to clarify my dog's condition is not pre-existing, I did that. They still denied it. My Vet had since faxed in 2 different doctor's note trying to clarify the condition is not pre-existing, and even ask the claim department to call the doctor's office to verify, but they never call him and yet denied my claim. I had already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureur. Please beware of this company. They do anything, and say anything they want. They try anything just to deny your claim. Customer service was rude!!

I got the premium policy in Nov 07.Put in my first claim in February was denied. Their reason...I didnt wait two weeks until policy was bought. WTF? Now my dog is very ill. She got pneumonia from the dog park. We're looking at potentially having to do surgery due to lung damage. I'm waiting to see if they pay the bills we have so far. If they don't...its lawyer time. Luckily for me my bf is a nasty lawyer. God, I love that woman. I get lawyer work for a day at the spa with my friend. I bought this policy because of the reviews here. If they don't pay the reviews here are padded. I will also notify this sites admin. I'll keep everyone updated.

A great choice!

I picked up a PetFirst brochure one day and took it to my vet's office for their opinion. They hadn't heard of PetFirst and recommended VPI whom they were accustomed to dealing with. I compared the plans and opted to go with PetFirst. I recommend PetFirst to everyone I know simply because practically all of the year's premiums can be recouped in a pet's annual visit. In addition, I did have to make an extensive claim only a few months into my policy and it was paid quickly and without hassle. The vet's office told me PetFirst had called to ask some questions and request some additional records but said their staff was nothing less than polite (not accusatory like I was trying to defraud them or something). I have only had to call PetFirst one time and they answered all my questions with incredible politeness. In addition, they understood that I have "kidz" and not "cats." (lol) I have also found their website easy to use. These people are great and I would recommend them to everyone. In fact--I DO!

Sudden pet illness, surgery, death

this year I was notified my pet insurance was increasing. Angered at the cost of healthcare, I cancelled my policies on both my pets. I foolisly thought I would not need it. I never carried health coverage on a pet before and had not needed it, so why pay for something you don't need, right. dog turned 2 in March, a beautiful springer spaniel that we loved more than any dog before. She was of champion breeding stock, from a well known kennel. Parents cleared for any heredity issues, so what could go wrong. She was quiet, not a chewer. Why would I think anything would go wrong. I kept my lost pet insurance, that should take care of my needs...WRONG. She started to limp on her rear leg, no pain, no injury identified by vet. Appeared to be a sprain or sore paw. Put her on pain meds for 4 days, got better immediately. Throwing up food, back to vet. Appeared to be reation to pain meds. Shot for nausea. Great for 2 days, then refused to eat evening meal, very unlike her, won't take bedtime treat, again unlike her. To vet in morning, soon as office open. Xrays negative, lab work good, more tests. insisted we need to check further. Dog not doing any better. emergency surgery revealed hole in stomach. Emergency hospital care following surgery. My beautiful baby died the next morning. The cost quite high with no pet to show for it. I saved 500.00 because of my anger in healthcare costs and payed more than 6 times more in the end.
