Dishonest

This company constantly made mistakes on claims and underpays and then it takes a long while to get it corrected. Also there are limits per catagories..not by illness. For instance respritatory and heart are considered to be in one catagory. They frequently misread claims and I had alot of problems with them.

EXTREMELY ANGRY

We insured our dog after she had an accident to her left eye which had cost us a hefty $4000.00 plus. We knew this was an existing condition, but were concerned with any further health problems of any kind. Our Document of Insurance had the Injury to Eye as a TEMPORARY exclusion, so I called the Company and was informed that after a period of time the eye would again be covered. So I kept the policy going and each time it was re-issued with the same clause...Temporary exclusion. This year (9 years later) she has developed glaucoma in that eye and it has to be removed ($1300) we submitted a proposal from the vet and were turned down and our policy was underwritten the same day to totally exclude the eye, based on an existing condition. After 9 years of payments and only two claims against the policy in all that time...they decided on that day to permanently exclude the eye....how convenient!! Our vet is disgusted with them and has told us that she never recommends PetCare any more...as they have a bad reputation for paying out. We are not in a financial position to cover the cost of the operation, so our dog is unable to get relief from the pressure in her eye and is in discomfort. We are still fighting with the company over their decision.

Typical to Fair

I quit their rivals, PetPlan after they kept raising premiums every time my Airedale got sick. PetCare has been somewhat better, a bit slower in upping their fees. It might help that my vet deals with them exclusively and will go to bat for me when I dispute their claim decision. (Unfortunately, we are pretty good customers).

life time maximum limits

rescued my shihtzu x when she was 5 1/2 and had no knowledge of her medical history.Vet convinced me to purchase insurance & was very greatful for that as medical problems started almost immediately. Petcare was great, usually had my cheque prior to receiving credit card statement which I use for payment. Have been with them for 11 years & would rate them a 10. Unfortunately in 2008 she was diagnosed with diabetes & bills were mounting up quickly & very expensive. I was then advised by Petcare that I had reached my lifetime limit for this disease & other effects caused by the diabetes. Premiums were increased dramatically but coverage for the disease ceased. I have since discovered that there are plans with "No" lifetime limit & would strongly encourage people considering insurance to go with one of these plans as (in Canada) testing & hospitalization is extremely expensive & it doesn't take long to reach a maximum if your pet is unfortunate enough to contract an ongoing disorder. In all other aspects I would rate PetCare a 10.

Very disappointed ex-customer

We signed up for Petcare QuickCare Optimum (a plan name no longer listed but I had been told on a different occasion that all the features were grandfathered) when we first brought home our puppy (13 weeks old). Around the age of 1 year we discovered she had a congenital back problem. Last year we had multiple claims. Although, we did get reimburse for some of our claims, it was difficult to guess at how much the reimbursement would be due to their rates for usual and customary costs. I filed a claim for an annual check up (supposedly covered) plus blood work. I did not hear anything back so I called to check on whether it was being processed only to be told that there was a problem. According to the representative they wouldn't reimburse for anything that wasn't a new condition for that policy year. In other words any condition, which was ongoing could only be eligible for the first year it was claimed, after that first year anything to do with that condition was excluded from coverage. Now, that was not my understanding when I signed on. My understanding was that pre-existing conditions would be excluded and as my dog was diagnosed six months after the start of our policy there shouldn't have been any problem. I was shocked and at first thought I was misunderstanding what was being said but no I had heard this correctly. My only options were to: a) Continue to donate the premiums to PetCare knowing that my only hope of any reimbursement would be if my dog developed so
