Expensive Mystery Ailment Paid For
Our normally social and affectionate 6 year old Poodle was behaving beyond strangely. Hiding, trembling, squealing at the touch. After 2 days we were extremely concerned that there was some undetectable injury, bite, or infection that could have serious health implications. We took her to an emergent veterinary hospital where a physical exam showed no trauma or obvious signs of infection. Tests run by her regular doctor also revealed a dog in perfect health. After a few days, she returned to normal and we all concluded that the episode was a post traumatic, emotional reaction to something that happened to her which we didn't see, but which nonetheless affected her deeply. By the end of the week we had our dog back and several hundred dollars in medical bills, which Pets Best reimbursed. Our story couldn't have ended better and is proof positive that insurance is well worth the investment. Thanks to you all.
Fancy and I really appreciate Trupanian
Fancy has been having a sick spell for a few months. Trupanion has been a blessing with assisting with testing and medication. We could not have done it without Trupanion. I don't know what we would have done otherwise.
Very Helpful and Informational
I spoke with Chris, he was extremely helpful in explaining the process and best plan for Chenzo. He took his time and made sure I felt comfortable with my decision!
They were quick easy to deal with compassionate and very adequate with reimbursement for Teddy's surgery
Here is the comment I left the company after they inquired about Teddy's recovery from his surgery:
Thanks so much for your interest in Teddy!! Teddy is doing very well after needing a miracle surgery to save him! We though it was going to be a routine visit for some constipation and other "rear end issues" but my wife called me hysterical saying he has Bloat and that an emergency surgery was needed and that it wasn't looking very good. Thankfully, our vet Dr. was able to perform a successful surgery and although he was in pretty bad shape the first few days he has shown great improvement and looks to be passed all his problems!!
I want to thank your company for the quick and very adequate reimbursement for Teddy's medical costs! It has been a Godsend. I will totally recommend your company to any pet owner I know!!
Thanks so much for everything and stay well!!!

Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Insurance
The best policy is the one that is right for you. One dog or cat insurance plan may not be a good fit for you, while another would be perfect. This is why it’s so important to compare before committing to an insurance company. This way you can avoid any surprises later on.
Choosing the best plan isn't about finding the cheapest option. It’s all about finding the coverage that best meets your needs and budget; without sacrificing your pet's health by giving him the best possible veterinary care.
Some pet insurance policies are more expensive than others so it's important to do your research to see different pet insurance costs, before purchasing one for your furry family member. The most comprehensive plans cover everything from checkups to any and all significant illnesses.
Most pet insurance plans have extensive coverage, while some, only cover certain, specific things. It's important to find a pet insurance plan that works for you and your pet in the event of an unexpected emergency like an illness or injury.
In summary this is how it works:
1. Compare and find the best plan for you and your pet.
2. Once you’ve chosen your policy, you’ll be able to personalize your pet insurance plan by selecting your deductible and co-pay or reimbursement percentage options.
3. Pay the annual or monthly premiums and stay up to date with all the documents and vaccines for your cat or dog.
4. Should your pet become ill or injured, you can visit any licensed veterinarian for treatment.
5. Submit a claim to your insurance company and will be reimbursed for treatment covered by your policy.
6. Get reimbursed by your insurance provider up to 100% of the claim depending on the pet insurance plan you choose.
Having pet insurance is a great idea if you don't want to pay large sums of money if your dog becomes sick or injured. But is having pet insurance worth it? How much does pet insurance cost?
Before you purchase any of the pet health insurance plans, ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I have enough savings to pay upfront if my pet ends up needing emergency treatment?
- Does my state allow me to get reimbursed in case something happens to my pet when he's away from home?
- What is the coverage level of this provider (80% - 100%)?
- Is it a good deal compared to other providers?
- Does my pet have ongoing health issues that will require treatment in the future?
- levels, which means no reimbursement if my pet is sick?
Ask yourself these questions to see if pet insurance is worth it. You can also explore the point of view of veterinarians. Talk to your vet, ask them about it!
Veterinarians, pet parents, and of course us, always recommend getting pet insurance.
Pet insurance cost is based on your:
- Pet's age (older pets are usually more expensive)
- Pet's Breed (there are breeds that are prone to issues, due to hereditary diseases)
- Location (if you live in a city where there is a high crime rate,
- you will need to pay more than if you live in an area with low-crime or
- in an affluent neighborhood).
An example is that a 10-year-old dog named Lola is spayed and is living in Houston, Texas. She is insured by Healthy Paws. The average monthly premium is $223.
The average cost of pet insurance varies from $15 to $200 per month. Dog insurance is a bit more expensive than cat insurance. But in general, the higher-priced plans have a higher deductible and will pay for more treatments before you pay anything out of pocket. The less expensive ones are not as comprehensive, and they are only meant to cover accidents.
