10/10   Great for multi-pet households
I just took out a policy for my four pugs teo policies with two dogs on each. I chose the standard 1000 plan without the wellness. I apy $33.90 for all four dogs I have a $100 deductible and 90% reimbursement. Pros are obviously the price by far the best I have come across in all my research because they offer the family plan, the only company in the industry that does this. I get 2000 annual coverage a 1000 for accident and 1000 for illnesses while i realize that is nt a whole lot of coverage to it's great for the price and for minor trips to the vet.Normally for that ow of a deductible the price with many other companies is much higher. The only insurance company that I have found that offers a discounted plan for rescue animals so I also get a discount since my pugs are all adopted from the rescue. Cons: If you go on a standard plan be aware that if a serious condition arises for instance, cancer it is only covered in the first year and at renewal will be considered pre-exisitng unless you choose the lifetime plan in which the monthly price will increase pretty substantially, also if you choose to go with the lifetime coverage you will not be able to get wellness that is only offered with standard plans. However, if you choose a standard plan you can add riders that will cover congential, heriditary and chronic conditions at $20.00 per a month more you can also add on breeders coverage which is a rare find in the industry as well as perscription food. In my research this w

4/10   Timelines for Filing Claims
I was disappointed to find that after 60 days, you can not submit a claim for reimbursement. With the money that I have paid in to this plan, I should be able to file a claim within the same claim year. Putting time limits such as sixty days is simply ripping off the consumer. I am very disappointed.

6/10   As the years pass, benefits go down, rates go up
I have a pretty good sized pack with 5 cocker spaniels, two cats. The trouble is, once your pet is diagnosed with a disorder, they will no longer cover it when the policy is renewed the following year. This is why I have pet insurance to cover these expenses. The underwriters keep changing the exclusions on the poicies and I have 3. Now they want the senior pets to go on their own policies so they can jack up the rates. I don't think so.... I will be looking for another company after being with them for 5 years!!!

10/10   I can't recommend them enough!
I've had PetFirst policies for about four years now, covering four dogs and a cat; two dogs on one policy, two on another and the cat on his alone. When I read the prior review complaining about the cost and lack of well coverage, I found a few things that I would have to say are inaccurate. I have to ask where that person lives that charges so much for an annual exam. $200? I lived the last four years in Los Angeles, and even there an annual exam was only $83. You can still get a rider to get some reimbursement on well and preventive care, which would include some money back for annual exams, dental cleanings, well blood work, heartworm tests, vaccines, etc. I dropped that rider because the additional cost for five pets outweighed the benefit of what I got back for the services, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for everyone. If you want those services covered, the option is there. Also, unless you have some sort of problem in your claim history, I don't think they'd covert it to accident only and drop illness coverage. Again, I can't say that definitively as I don't know your specific claim history, but that doesn't sound right. Yes, there was a minor price increase for me between years one and two, and then two and three, but no increase when I renewed for year four. Yes, they raised the deductible from $50 to 100 per incident, but at a 90% reimbursement rate, I can't blame them for that! 90% back as the standard is almost unheard of, and I rememb

10/10   Arguably one of the best pet insurance plans
I have had a policy with this insurance company for two years now, specifically, their Preferred Plus with Routine 400. I pay $106.95/month for two dogs. I adopted two dogs from a shelter two years ago and both have recurrent health problems. During the first year, I brought them to the hospital several times and PetFirst reimbursed me a total of $866.30 for accidents/illnesses. They also reimbursed me a total of $666.40 for wellness (flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, routine exam, screening, etc.) The policy also covers $75 worth of behavioral dog training per dog, so I always schedule a session every year. I have absolutely no complaints and doubt I will ever have any in the near future. They are very direct and honest about what they will and will not cover. It is fairly easy to process a claim and it takes a few weeks for them to process the claim upon receipt. I have called them a few times and the customer service is excellent. I only have a $100 deductible but the maximum coverage amount for accidents/illnesses is $15,000/year. I highly recommend this pet insurance company for owners who recently adopted a dog from a shelter.

3/10   Price goes up, Benefits go down.
I have had my 3 dogs on a Petfirst Policy for over 4 years now. They used to be good and would cover at least 50% of the costs for Annual exams, Accidents, Dental Cleanings and Heartworm preventative medications. They monthly charge for the policy started out around $70 a month and went up around 10% every year. My monthly cost in early 2012 was $92 until this last June when the monthly cost went up to $114, and at the same time they converted the policy to an accident only policy and added a $100 per visit deductible without telling me what they were going to do. So now I get no coverage for annuals, which cost around $200 per dog per year. The policy that used to cover Accidents and Wellness care, now only covers Accidents, but the price did NOT go down, it went up instead. They just renewed the policy and hoped I would not catch the changes. If they were going to make a major change to my insurance policy, I would expect them to send me a letter that explained what they were going to do and why. The new policy has so many exceptions written down that they can basically refuse to pay for anything they don't want to pay for and can dream up a reason based on those exceptions. I will not renew with them again and am currently looking for another insurance carrier.

10/10   Check This Out
We have two Boston Terriers that are indoor lap dogs. Daisy Mae is 7. Daisy somehow found a large piece of hard plastic to chew on and swallowed it. She had to have surgery. Her incisions were 12" long, one on the outside and another on the inside. She also has mast cell cancerous tumors that we have been able to have removed surgically before they got inside of her. We paid $2800 for the two surgeries including a lot of aftercare. 90% of this was covered after we paid our $100 deductible. I am very please with Petfirst pet insurance. I am a comparison shopper...take it from me, it doesn't get any better than Petfirst, from coverages to speedy claim service to a pleasant staff to work with.
