9/10 The plan is great, saves $ and worries , 4/19/2013

I really don't understand why so many people are complaining about the plan... First of all, it does state, right in the brochure, and on the CONTRACT you sign, that you are responsible for the full year's worth of payments whether your pet is lost, dies, or you give it away OR you have the choice of paying full retail value for all services used up to that point in the contract - this is totally fair. Please read things before you sign them. How fair would it be if you signed up, made one or two payments, got a bunch of services in the meantime, and cancelled with no further payments due- effectively paying less than $100 for several hundred $ worth of services? They would be ripped off several times a day! And NO I am not an employee there. Some of these people complaining truly make no sense.
NOW, the plan itself - again, read, and realize that it is not insurance but a preventative and WELLNESS plan - it says this in ALL CAPS on page 2 of 3 of the agreement, right at the top, followed by the services included. And it is totally worth it, DEPENDING on your pet. The puppy plan that includes spay/neuter is great - you get your vaccinations, sterilization, testing that makes sure your new pup is healthy, and FREE office visits for all the times your new fur ball hurts itself and you freak out about it as a new puppy parent. A single office visit is 48.95 - and if your pet is accident prone, it saves you money. And NO I'm not saying it's for when your pup breaks a le | | Injury/Illness: Plenty Breed: Mixed Breed dog |

10/10 Very happy with Banfield, 4/17/2013

Our 10-1/2 year old lab was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. Our regular vet told us we needed to have it removed which would cost $1,000-$1,100. We took her to Banfield for a 2nd opinion, & the diagnosis was confirmed. Their estimate for surgery was the same, but also included x-rays (included with the plan) to see if the cancer had metastasized. That would have been an extra cost with our regular vet. We asked them to do the x-rays first & they did. The cancer had not spread & they removed the tumor the same day. They also cleaned her teeth while she was under anesthesia. Instead of paying the full amount up front, we signed up for the plan of $42 a month which would include the x-rays and dental cleaning, PLUS annual vaccinations, 2 comprehensive exams, diagnostic testing, 2 fecal exams, deworming if necessary, 1 more dental cleaning, 2 urinalyses, 2 more chest x-ray views, 2 electrocardiograms, free office calls, & 20% off their products including prescriptions during the next year. There are less expensive plans, but this one was the best for us. All we had to pay yesterday was $488 for the surgery plus the one-time fee of $40.95, and then we pay the premium of $42 a month for the next year. At the end of one year, we will have spent the same amount of money as we would paid in full yesterday if we didn't have the plan, PLUS we get the advantage of the vaccines which is a win-win situation for us. The ultimate win, of course, was that our girl didn't have lung ca | | Injury/Illness: cancer Breed: Labrador Retriever |

1/10 SCAM, 4/12/2013

I've been with Banfield for two years and in two different states. The Vets are green or just don't know anything. My bassett mutt has been going there since he was a puppy and they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with him they even did Xrays and said he just had a little arthritis. WRONG. I went home to visit family and took him to our old family vet. She just looked at him and said that his knees where off and so was on leg. She did Xrays and showed me that his kneecaps where in the wrong place one paw had grown in wrong. If this had been caught when He was younger it would have been an easier fix but now his is full grown and there is a lot of wear and tear. I called and canceled my banfield insurance and they had the nerve to charge me to cancel their horrible service or they would report that I didn't pay them to the credit agencies. They were in the wrong and have cost my dog his abbility to walk with there doctors incompetince but yet I still have to pay them more than two hundred dollars. Do NOT get the insurance or go to these quacks. | | Injury/Illness: bone Breed: Mixed Breed dog |

Banfield gives a lot of unnecessary services in order to pad there bill to get you to join the "wellness plan". Giving a dog 5 vaccines at once, is never recommended. Also this de-worming they wish to do even if you dog does not have worms is outrageous. I have to seriously question there medical ethics. You can not cancel your plan either with out having to pay an outrageous amount of money for services rendered. For example, my dog had diarrhea, why did they do an eye pressure test? I told them she sees her vet on a regular basis, she does not need any shots at the moment but her Lyme vaccine. They gave her everything all at once. I am calling the bank to see if I have any rites at all. You get nowhere taking to them, they bounce you back and forth between the office and the 1800 number. | | Injury/Illness: enteritis/diarrhea Breed: Mixed Breed dog |

3/10 Banfield Pet Plan, 4/8/2013
Reviewed By: Anita Perrucci, Recommend: N
In have taken my 4 dogs to banfield in Bridgewater, NJ for years It was getting pretty bad until the company took it over. I had the plan and I had to cancel it. I cancelled the pet plan on friday, was offered 2 months free. I called on Monday to put the dog back on and they revoked the lousy 2 months free. How stupid. I will take my dogs to another vet. This plan doesn't cover alot. Can go for shots to petco. Will also take my dogs there to get groomed. They don't care about keeping customers. | | Injury/Illness: skin problem Breed: Shih Tzu |
