1/10   Don't waste your money!, 4/15/2014

Reviewed By: Khoa, Recommend: N

After a year of paying for coverages that I didn't need, I was finally able to cancel my pet's wellness plan with Banfield today.

I took my cat in the same day that I signed up for the Wellness plan and they said that I could cancel within 30 days if I didn't want it anymore. However, in order to sign up for the plan, they want to run a checkup on my cat and did some tests. After my cat came out shaken and bruised, I'd realized that the doctors at Banfield are not very good or gentle with animals. I decided to cancel the following day, and the rep told me that I would have to pay $500 for all the medical expenses that they did on my cat the day before. This is how they get you!

I haven't returned to Banfield ever since I signed up, and a year later, I'm able to finally get rid of them. Please don't waste your hard earned money, save it for when you actually want to bring your pets to a good animal hospital.

1/10   Banfield wellness plan a scam, 4/14/2014

Reviewed By: Karyn, Recommend: N

My dog died three months before the plan for the year ran out. He had been enrolled in the plan since he was 8 weeks old. My dog never missed an appointment but died when he was 7 despite their "wellness" plan. I still had to pay for wellness plan for the three months after my pet was dead. Then I called into the automated system to make the final payment before it was due, and they charged me twice but refused to take care of the issue stating they had no record of it despite it showing on my credit card statement twice. They were completely incompetent and a scam since I was double charged and didn't even have a pet to receive the services for the first charge. I will NEVER use their plan EVER AGAIN with my next dog. I went back and forth with the bank and banfield trying to resolve an issue for a pet that was dead which only added to the loss of the pet.

1/10   Terrible, suspicious vets, really??, 4/7/2014

I have a cat adopted from the Pet Smart and strongly recommended to get this insurance, not knowing so much about a cat then, joined paid over three years until.. My cat got infected by flea, for whole THREE TIMES of VET VISITS, I was told there is no flea, just a TRACE(???) I didn't know anything about flea, didn't realize The TRACE meant feces of fleas. If you ever experienced the flea infection at home, you'll know the sooner the easier to stop or minimize all the health damages the flea infection unfolds right into your pets and family. Three denials on flea infection last summer, over the eight months, we have suffered it is quite under control, costing us over $1000 on chemicals, time and consuming effort to combat the flea infection...you just get mad, and left with other disease originating from the flea bites. I am seeing my doctor for weird symptom I started to get these days and did my homework on the med-websites, in trying to rule out suspected diseases. However, Banfield wellness plan(Louisville, KY) claimed that we owe more than 40% of the yearly principle if we are to quit it, asking to pay the amount or keep it on monthly automatic charge for the rest of 11 months. Boala!! That's convenient way to making customers stay, huh?? The plan might have been good with a real vets.

1/10   Banfield Pet Wellness Plan a Major Rip Off, 3/25/2014

Reviewed By: Rick, Recommend: N

We thought we would be saving money by doing preventative healthcare for our two Poodles. We have had the wellness plan for about two months and every visit they try to soak us for some additional fees. Our one poodle was severely bruised when attempting to administer anistesha during teeth cleaning. Then they wanted to run additioanl test to rule out cushings disease and they refused to complete the cleaning until we paid for all of the unecessary test (all came back negative). The doctors are as another individual mentioned mediocre at best. As soon as this contract period expires we are out of here and won't return to Pet Smart for anything. Whether it's pet supplies or medical care they charge some of the highest rates in the industry. Additionally, they tried to sell us there flea and heart worm meds which are 3X what we paid at our previous vet for a brand they conviently don't carry. When we asked for a script to purchase it elsewhere the vet refused. My guess is the doctors also receive a commission for anything they can up sell. Do what you want but we won't ever use them again.
