10/10   You have to read the contract., 9/10/2014

I don't understand why so many people are complaining. You sign a contract for a year for pet insurance. You receive a lot of services up front, vaccinations, teeth cleaning, check ups. Of course you have to live up to your contract. You are still paying for services you have already received. I think pet insurance offers great peace of mind. I appreciate the fact teeth cleaning is part of the services offered. Also, this is preventative care. If my pet gets hit by a car or develops cancer...I will pay more for his medical needs. I will get a discount but still...just like with humans....medical care can be costly. We just signed up for Banfield. The contract is very clear. My new pup received all of his vaccines, a full check up, and is scheduled to have his final vaccine and teeth cleaning. I will continue to pay for this month to month for one year. If my dog dies...I will still pay. I will be grateful for the services I received for my pet knowing I did the best I could to ensure a happy, healthy dog.

1/10   Scam business model & fraudlent service, 9/9/2014

Went to have a blood draw on my dog, then was churned by 2 staff upselling their Wellness Program. Signed up for lowest level Wellness Program, and was quoted by staff I have 3 days to revoke Wellness Program contract after sign up, went home and read pages of negative reviews from many sites as to its scam business model, then called w/in 24 hrs to cancel Wellness Program. THEN was told I owed over $300 for exams, tests, diagnostics that I did not consent to on my dog and did not witness. Currently being triangulated between corporate office and branch location

3/10   Don't, 9/9/2014

They are not what I consider insurance, and now I know I was foolish for doing it. I hope you don't. They are located conveniently in Petsmart, and OK as long as you have a well pet and don't need much, including extended hours. Yearly checkup kind of thing, and dental, etc. They have no ultrasound, and I am not sure of xray or else they would have taken one of my dog! Their hours are from 7-5 daily. For serious stuff, they can't help, and yet you are still paying for the plan. My Corgi had an intestinal blockage, and I brought him in, but it was around 4 so they referred me to an all night emergency vet who charged me big time, and yet didn't resolve the problem, took xrays which showed a slight shadow, said they were on a disc for me to show regular (Banfield) vet. I went back to Banfield, and they had no way to read the xrays on the disc. Then referred me to yet another emergency vet, and by this time he was super sick with seizures. The second vet (tried to read the disc and it was blank!!!), laid out a surgical treatment plan for $6K, which I couldn't pay. Regular insurance would have saved his life, and the monthly cost was similar. After my dog was euthanized, there were a few months left on my plan, which they waived because they felt sorry for me, I think. A few months later, my German Shepherd, also 'covered' by Banfield was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma, a blood cancer. Apart from bloodwork, there wasn't anything that they cover that could help her situation except prescription food, so no help there either. I got her chemo+holistic treatment, and paid a lot of cash. Again, after she died, there was only a month left on the contract, so they waived the remainder for me. I now have 2 new dogs and full insurance on both and would not be without it.

We got the plan for our puppy got the shots and spay. They then renewed my plan the next year with out asking. I was told i could not cancel it so we kept it going and i upped her to the dental as well. My dog needed a hook removed from her leg in July we were on vacation so i called and asked if it would be covered, i was told yes bring her in. We drove over an hour for the service and then received a $400 bill. I was told it would be covered and it was not, now i have to finish the plan up til June and pay $400. This insurance is a scam. STAY AWAY!!
